🌿 The Power of Pausing: A December Ceremony for Letting Go
There is a moment every December — quiet, almost imperceptible — when the year exhales.
When the pace softens.
When the body whispers, “Slow down. You’ve carried enough.”
December teaches us the difference between stopping and softening.
One is a full halt.
The other is a surrender.
This month, with everything this year has asked of me — the beauty, the creation, the growth, the shock, the healing — I’ve been leaning deeply into the medicine of pausing.
Not to disconnect.
Not to withdraw.
But to return.
To breath.
To center.
To release what the body can no longer hold.
This ceremony came from that place — from the quiet truth that letting go isn’t a single moment.
It’s a practice.
A devotion.
A doorway.
🌬️ The Wisdom of This Season
Winter has its own rhythm.
Even here in the desert, where the light spills in soft and golden, the body still feels an inward pull.
The nervous system slows.
The breath deepens.
The heart starts listening again.
Nature is still teaching — always teaching — how to let go.
The trees releasing their leaves.
The ground resting without apology.
The animals leaning instinctively toward stillness.
We are meant to do the same.
This year, especially, pausing feels sacred.
If you want to explore this beautifully, Tara Brach has a gentle teaching on “The Sacred Pause,” a practice that has held me many times.

💗 A Personal Note on Slowing Down
This season has held so much for me — creation, expansion, ceremony, new offerings, deep spiritual work… and then the unexpected tenderness and fear of walking through Kevin’s attack and his healing.
In those first days home, when everything felt raw and fragile, I crawled into his hospital bed just to feel the warmth of him.
Just to listen for his breathing.
I’ve never been more grateful for the symphony of his snore.
There are moments that reorder your entire life.
Moments that remind you how quickly everything can change… and how holy it is to simply have the people you love right here.
Those moments taught me this:
Slowing down isn’t a luxury.
It’s a lifeline.
And it’s from that place that I created this December ceremony — a soft, grounding ritual for letting go before the new year calls us forward.
🕯️ A December Ceremony for Letting Go
This ritual is meant to be soft. Gentle.
A remembering rather than a performance.
You’ll need:
• A quiet space
• A candle
• A journal
• A stone that supports release
(Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz, Amethyst, or Rose Quartz from the Origin Stone™ Collection)
✨ Step 1 — Light the Candle
As you strike the match, imagine you are giving yourself permission to stop holding everything together.
Let the flame be a doorway:
into stillness,
into breath,
into presence.
One soft inhale.
One longer exhale.
Let the body arrive.
✨ Step 2 — Ground With Breath
Place your hand on your heart.
Breathe in through the nose for four counts.
Pause.
Exhale through the mouth for six.
Do this five times.
Let your breath become your anchor — slow, tender, true.
This is your reset.
This is your return.
If you want to explore this deeper, here is a beautiful guide to the science of slow breathing and its calming effect on the nervous system:

✨ Step 3 — Hold the Stone
Pick up your stone.
Feel its weight, its texture, its temperature.
Black Tourmaline helps release fear.
Smoky Quartz clears the nervous system.
Amethyst softens the mind.
Rose Quartz brings you back to tenderness.
With each breath, let the stone absorb what you’re ready to lay down.
Not forcing.
Just allowing.
✨ Step 4 — A Letting Go Journal Prompt
Write this at the top of your page:
“What is ready to be released so I can enter the new year with clarity and ease?”
Let your hand move slowly.
Let your truth be soft.
Let yourself write without fixing or performing.
You don’t need an answer.
You just need honesty.
✨ Step 5 — The Closing Breath
Close your journal.
Place the stone on your chest.
One hand on your heart.
One on your belly.
Inhale peace.
Exhale release.
Let the candle burn as long as you need.
The most sacred ceremonies are the ones that feel like remembering.

As you move through December, I hope you give yourself permission to pause.
To soften.
